Earlier this month, we visited Visionwest’s Manaaki Kai, a social supermarket based in West Auckland. We dropped off a donation of our Second Chance Nut Butters and had the chance to learn more about the incredible mahi behind this initiative.

What Are Second Chance Nut Butters?
When our production team switches between nut butter flavours, we’re left with a surplus of nut butter made from a combination of two different flavours. These are bottled up into what we call Second Chance nut butters. Some may be sweet, some may be savoury. While these jars are not for sale, they are donated to some amazing New Zealand charities and organisations instead.

What is Manaaki Kai?
Manaaki Kai is a social supermarket run by Visionwest, a community trust that supports tens of thousands of Kiwis each year with services including budgeting, housing, counselling and food support.
Unlike traditional food banks, Manaaki Kai offers a supermarket-style experience where individuals and whānau can choose their own groceries using a points system. This provides dignity of choice and the ability to select the items that best meet their needs.
The team at Visionwest is working to reduce food insecurity in a way that is thoughtful, empowering and community-led. We’re proud to contribute to their shelves with our Second Chance butters and to be part of something that’s making a real difference in our community.
