At Forty Thieves, we believe in the power of small actions. Last year, our sustainability efforts delivered another measurable result through our continued partnership with Avery Dennison’s AD Circular recycling programme.
This marks our third year in the programme, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made since joining. You can read more about how it all began here: We’ve Joined the Avery Recycling Programme!

What We Achieved in 2024:
Last year, we recycled 0.74 metric tonnes of glassine liner waste. That effort had a real environmental payoff:
🌿 85.84 eucalyptus trees saved
🌳 1.21 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions avoided
🏞 1,108 square meters of forest preserved
These numbers reflect meaningful change driven by our commitment to reduce waste.

What Is Glassine Liner and Why Does It Matter?
Glassine liner is the smooth, waxy paper that backs adhesive labels. While often overlooked and discarded, we’ve made a conscious decision at Forty Thieves to manage and recycle it responsibly instead. Since joining the AD Circular programme in 2021, we have been collecting and recycling our liner waste, turning a single-use material into something circular and responsible.

Where It Goes
Our recycled liner is sent to Sri Venkateshwara, a certified recycling mill currently undergoing an independent ethical audit by QIMA. QIMA is a global auditing and compliance firm that assesses suppliers for ethical labour practices, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety. This ensures the material is handled responsibly and in alignment with international standards.

A Shared Sustainability Vision
Our recycling efforts are part of a broader shift in the packaging industry. Avery Dennison, through its AD Circular programme, has committed to ambitious 2030 sustainability goals, including:
– Sourcing 100 percent of paper fibre from certified sources
– Diverting 95 percent of waste away from landfill, with at least 80 percent recycled
– Reducing company-wide emissions by 70 percent, and scope 3 emissions by 30 percent
– Ensuring that all standard label products contain recycled or renewable content
By participating in this programme, we align our business with a global effort to reduce environmental impact and advance circularity in packaging. You can view the full breakdown of our 2024 results here: Forty Thieves 2024 Annual Liner Recycling Report.pdf

Your Role in This Progress
We see sustainability as a long-term commitment. Recycling our glassine liners is an additional step we take to reduce waste in a world where convenience often comes at the expense of the environment.
When you choose Forty Thieves, you’re supporting a small business that’s committed to making thoughtful, measurable improvements.
